Dead Dragon
Kiki and I will be starting with the fourth book in Thomas Harris' Hannibal Lecter series, Hannibal Rising. Back at Iowa, Kiki and I had a long-running discussion about the literary pretensions and merits of Harris's earlier work in the series. I'm showing my hand a bit now, but I've always felt Red Dragon was a legitimate piece of literature. Silence of the Lambs also seemed to rise to this level of ambition and craft.
And then something happened.
Starting 01 January 2007, Kiki and I will dig into Hannibal Rising, and finally bring to a close our long, mutual journey into the abattoir of American popular fiction. Doors open 15 Jan, which maybe gives me enough time to also finish Against the Day and AK-47.
